First take time to read, "Breeding Myths". The findings from surveys performed by the late George A. Padgett, DVM, of Michigan State University of Veterinary Medicine: Mixed-breed dogs have more genetic diseases than purebred dogs. There are 215 known diseases in mixed breed dogs, with 71 percent of them having defective genes. The idea that a mixed-breed dog is likely to have less genetic diseases than a purebred is a misconception.
Information on why a purebred puppy from health screened lines are a better choice. Take time to read this Designer Dog Fact Sheet If you want to adopt/rescue a crossbred dog go to Pet Finders and search for "Cavalier". There are many mixed breeds that need homes. We firmly believe in rescue and feel not dog should be bred unless to improve on the breed. Do not support the "designer dog" fad that produces more Cavalier mixes for rescue situations. These mixes have an increase risk inheriting health issues not seen in Cavaliers. For more information, please go to: Designer Dogs - dispelling the myths.
Do not purchase a Cavalier or any dog from a "puppy producer". A backyard breeder (BYB) and/or puppy producer is a person who produces puppies, accidentally or on purpose, without APPROPRIATE health screenings by BOARD CERTIFIED SPECIALISTS for the parents or puppies or they DISREGARD the results from these screenings to produce litters for sale. They have minimal if any knowledge of the breed standard and genetics. In Cavaliers, you will find many puppy producers foundation stock are mainly from USA puppy mills, Ireland or some rare european country puppy mills/farmers. If you read a pedigree WITHOUT affixes (kennel names) then the breeding should come under question. These affixes are signatures for specific breeders...examples of famous UK affixes are Salador, Kindrum, Homerbrent, Maibee, Craigowl, Telvara, and Amantra to name a few. Stuarthome is our affix...our signature. Words like “tea-cup” or "specializing in small" are red lights that the puppies may not be responsibly bred. Those terms are not used by responsible breeders, who breed to the standard for the breed, not for traits that are considered to be faults. Serious health problems often accompany extremes of size as well as unusual colors. Take time to review the AKC breed standard, this is the "blueprint" that responsible breeders go by.
