![]() Welcome to the home of Stuarthome Cavalier King Charles Spaniels (CKCS) named after Chanctonbury Stuart, the most wonderful dog to have walked the earth. Stuarthome Cavalier King Charles Spaniels (CKCSC) are registered with the American Kennel Club (AKC) and shown in AKC and ACKCSC supported venues. We are small, dedicated AKC Cavalier hobby breeders located in Michigan. We only breed to produce a future show prospect but do occasionally have pet puppies and adults available for approved homes. We are committed to the breed future. In this website, you will find: a page highlighting the dogs that are part of our breeding program over the years; a page with my current Cavaliers; a Cavalier health summary; a page highlighting current/recent litters; a page highlighting adult Cavaliers that are available; and a page providing a questionnaire to inquire about Stuarthome CKCSs. Please take time to explore our website and learn about Cavaliers! It is important to read about avoiding pitfalls in selecting your future companion (please read all the way to the bottom of each page). About Stuarthome CKCS... Stuarthome Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are located in beautiful southwest corner of Michigan between Chicago, Illinois and Kalamazoo, Michigan. We are very active in the breed at the national level both in breed specific charitable works, health promotion & research and the show venue. We are the co-owners of the All About Cavaliers Discussion Forum. This is a private international discussion group for the dedicated Cavalier Show Breeders, Owners & Breeder-Judges from around the world. Stuarthome defines where our roots are and our hearts will always reside… These roots are in our first Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, the very beloved Chantonbury Stuart. He is litter brother to CH. Chanctonbury Kiss, ROM. The aim of Stuarthome CKCS is to breed to AKC breed standard with concentration on health, temperament and beauty. Stuarthome is a home, not a kennel and it is in the heart of Michigan's Wine Country referred to the Lake Michigan Wine Country; this is a beautiful section in the southwest corner of the state. We register our Cavaliers with the American Kennel Club and have voting membership in the Parent Club, ACKCSC. This membership is considered the gold standard for the breed in the USA. Our breeding Cavaliers are health screened by board certified specialists on an annual basis. During these annual health screenings, OFA Cardiac forms and CERF (Canine Eye Registration Foundation) forms are completed by the examining board certified specialists. It is important not to accept OFA Cardiac screenings performed by practitioners (these are general veterinarians, not specialists). Do not accept endorsements from general veterinarians. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a delightfully affectionate, playful, and intelligent little dog that repays his or her owner’s care and attention with an endearing devotion. Cavaliers are not kennel dogs. Because of hundred years of close contact with their owners and their development as lap dogs, they make wonderful companions. The CKCSs want to love you and be loved, to run and play in a safe place, and to sleep in a soft bed - preferably your bed, but they are willing to negotiate on that point! They get along well with children, cats, and other dogs. To learn more about this breed click below to view this educational video: Breed All About It Video featuring John D. Gammon & Robert A. We breed only to improved on the breed and for a future show potential. All of our companion Cavaliers are sold with spay/neuter agreements. Cavaliers from reputable breeders are costly to breed properly and these breeders are always in the "red" with the cost of this hobby. The purchase prices for pet quality Cavaliers from reputable hobby breeders can cost $1500 or more; this would depend on the pedigrees, breeders level of achievements and region in the USA. Puppy producers often sell for less and can be "warm & fuzzy" in their marketing approach. These puppies are usually from questionable pedigrees (many are Irish imports from puppy mills), and the health screenings/OFA forms of the parents (if any) are completed by general veterinarians. Free feel to email us to inquire about Cavaliers! Please include in that email your name and location. It is important to complete the questionnaire prior to emailing! This questionnaire is a tool we use to try to match you to any available Cavalier now or in the future. We receive many emails and it is important to let us know why you are a true Cavalier lover. It is important to wait for the right Cavalier for your family since this is a long commitment! We support the ACKCSC Rescue Trust and its efforts.
If you would like to be considered for a Stuarthome Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, please take time to complete the Stuarthome Prospective Owner Questionnaire. By competing this it will not obligate either you or us. It is our hope that it will help in our communications thereby placing the right personalities together for the most successful family match. Go to the Stuarthome puppies page to review the process. If you want to adopt/rescue a crossbred dog go to Pet Finders and search for Cavalier and crossbred Cavaliers will display. There are many mixed breeds and some rescue Cavaliers that need homes. For rescue Cavaliers try to work with Breed Specific (Cavalier) Rescue Organization since they know the needs of the breed. Be careful in your search since some "rescue" organizations are not truly rescue groups but fronts for "reselling" dogs. We firmly believe in rescue and feel NO dog should be bred unless to improve on the breed and the breeder is prepared to keep all the puppies. Give and support your local all-breed (purebred & mixed breeds) rescue and breed specific (Cavalier) organizations! Read Is a Rescue Cavalier the Right Dog For You? |

Never buy a Cavalier King Charles spaniel from a pet store or a broker or from an internet ad. Acquire a Cavalier King Charles spaniel only from its breeder or from rescue, and communicate only with that breeder or that rescue organization... Do not support the "designer dog" fad that produces more Cavalier mixes in rescue and health issues.
Do not purchase a Cavalier from a "puppy producer". A puppy producer is a person who "for profit as his or her goal" produces puppies without APPROPRIATE age of parents and health screenings by BOARD CERTIFIED SPECIALISTS for the parents or puppies, and with minimal if any knowledge of the breed standard and genetics.
